Psychics

From F.E.A.R.

Alma is, truly, the ultimate in negative-effect Psychics. Approach with extreme caution.
The word psychic (pronounced /ˈsaɪkɨk/; from the Greek psychikos—"of the soul, mental") refers to the claimed ability to perceive things hidden from the senses through means of extra-sensory perception (ESP). F.E.A.R. uses the term in the more common sci-fi sense to refer to any abnormal mental power. In this world, there exists Psychics, individuals whose minds are as deadly as all weapons available in Auburn.
The F.E.A.R. Point Man, the first of the 2 prototypes, possess inhumanly superior reflexes.

Alma Wade serves as the prime example of negative-effect Psychics and a quasi cannibal psychic. She is the main subject of Project Origin, while Paxton Fettel, the second of the two Prototypes, is trained as a PsiCom in Project Perseus, controlling the cloned, elite Replicas. The F.E.A.R. Point Man is the end result and the first of the 2 Origin Prototypes, exhibiting inhumanly superior reflexes that, once in effect, turns him instantly into the ultimate killing machine while the world goes in slow motion around him, reducing even the brightest and most advanced armies (the Replicas in this case) into nothing more than gory, bloody remains and corpses in a matter of seconds.

However, these inhuman reflexes isn't without unwanted side-effects: the Pointman is almost devoid of human emotion as a result of being born of a negative-effect psychic like Alma, making him an almost inhuman being at best (though not psychotic like Paxton), and at some point, the Pointman suffers constant hallucinations, some of which can actually damage him, not to mention swarms of Nightmares coming after him, both hallucination and reality.

Psychic abilities include (note most psychics do not show all of these traits):

  • SlowMo - once activated, the user's firing and movement speed increases five-fold, while the world around slows down by a factor of five.
  • Telepathy - Alma can cause hallucinations in others seemingly at will, and speak directly to them without needing to be physically present.
  • Liquify - Alma's primary psychic attack, this ability can melt any target's flesh off, leaving only a charred, blood-drenched skeleton behind. Given the remains often give off smoke or steam, this is most likely related to her pyrokinetic abilities.
  • Summon Nightmares - Alma can also summon these fragile but malevolent creatures, preferably in large swarms, from the depths of her mind on the target, in hallucinations and in reality.
  • Pyrokinesis - The ability to control fire, usually used by Alma, as her presence is usually 'accented' by flames.
  • Telekinesis - levitates certain objects nearby and/or at the absence of the user's presence.
