PDA listing[]
- Main article: Incendiary Grenade
The R3 grenade contains thickened polyphoric agent (TPA), which ignites when it contacts air and burns at approximately 1200 degrees Celsius. The R3 is devastating to soft targets caught within its blast radius.
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin[]
The R3 Incendiary Grenades were designed to douse enemies in flames. It has perhaps the largest area effect of all the other grenades, and will, on most occasions, temporarily disable enemies. Weaker enemies will die after one blast, but stronger ones will take several of these grenades to kill them. Enemies that don't die right away from this attack will usually drop their primary weapon and roll on the ground to put the flames out. After the flames are put out, they will pull out their pistols and shoot at Michael Becket. They will not attempt to pick up any dropped weapons. Not all enemies can be affected by the R3, the more heavily armored the target is, the less the effect. Also, this obviously is not recommended against any supernatural enemies or Power Armor. Interestingly, heavily armored enemies, like ATC Black Ops Elite Soldiers, Replica Heavy Troopers and Replica Elites, are also vulnerable to the effect of this gadget. It takes about 2 R3 Incendiary grenades alone to kill a normal enemy soldier. Thus this is more of a distraction and weaken tool rather than a reliable weapon.
If Becket is hit by one, he still can fight but he will continuously take damage, similar to the effect of the Balzer LM10 Napalm Cannon, though the latter has a little more devastating effect. Self-inflicted damage by R3 grenade is very high on Hard mode, make sure the player use them correctly.
Despite most Armacham Technology Corporation and Replica enemies may drop this type of grenade if the player is running short, only Replica Heavy Armor soldiers and ATC Black Ops Pyros will use them against the player. When thrown, it produces a neon red glow.
Trivia[]
- The in-game model is based on M26 grenade, but with the attribute of Holland-made M34 White Phosphorus grenade. Although the ingredient of R3 is not White Phosphorus, which is widely used to make incendiary devices.
