Spectres are a type of supernatural enemy that appear in F.E.A.R. 3. These wraiths are the undeparted souls or "psychic residue" of recently deceased people who have been effectively reborn into a disembodied undead state similar to Paxton Fettel and his mother Alma Wade and with similar, albeit noticeably weaker, abilities and metaphysical forms.
These ghostly creatures are gruesome in appearance, being little more than the upper half of a mutilated body wearing a cloak. They seem like they are missing flesh, have their bottom jaw broken and their intestines are hanging from their torso. Their abilities are psychic in nature, allowing them to fire psychic blasts and possess humans, much in the same vein as Paxton Fettel does.
- Interestingly, the spelling of "Spectre" is a European spelling, despite Day 1 Studios being an American company. The spelling may have been changed to distinguish the F.E.A.R. 3 monsters from the Specters seen in F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin.
- Although the Spectres can fire Stun Blasts like Fettel, they do so by using both hands to fire the blast, unlike Fettel, who uses only one hand. The Stun Blasts fired by Spectres also do not damage an enemy, like Fettel's Blasts do, but act more or less like a Flashbang Grenade, blinding an enemy on a successful hit.
- The stun blasts from Spectres are of an interesting triangular shape.
